The Intrepid Museum continues to provide unique content through weekly livestreams on Twitch, YouTube and Facebook. The programming will leverage the Museum’s unique position at the intersection of history, science, technology and innovation. Delivered by a combination of in-house experts and special guests, the content will feature:

 

  • Interactive conversations with astronauts, scientists, astronomers, aviation experts and other guests
  • Opportunities to discover the science, technology and stories behind some of the world’s most fascinating aircraft, spacecraft, ships and submarines such as the space shuttle Enterprise, British Airways Concorde and the famed Lockheed A-12
  • Behind-the-scenes looks at the Museum and its artifacts including little seen and off-limits to the public areas
  • A chance to follow along with the process of maintaining and restoring our famed aircraft collection

Investigate coded forms of Naval communication and stealth techniques by examining artifacts from Intrepid’s time in service. Then test out your decoding skills and learn to construct your own secret messages!

Intrepid Adventures: Journey to Space (All Ages)
Tuesday, June 15 | 3:00pm – 4:00pm ET
During the Space Race in the 1960s, Intrepid played an important role as a prime recovery vessel for NASA’s Mercury and Gemini missions! Learn about our connections to the space program and why astronauts need spacecraft and spacesuits when they venture into Earth’s orbit and beyond. Participants will also get a glimpse into the Space Shuttle Pavilion, home of the Space Shuttle Enterprise.

Intrepid Adventures: African Americans in the Navy (All Ages)

African Americans have a long heritage of service in the United States Navy. Despite facing adversity in the fight for equality within the armed forces, Black servicemen and women have continually served with distinction and taken the Navy to new heights. Join us as we highlight some of the remarkable men and women who blazed the trail for African Americans in the Navy today!

Virtual Astronomy Live: Astronauts Dig Dirt (All Ages)
Thursday, June 17 | 5:30pm – 7:00pm ET
What are the tools needed for collecting samples, what is the training needed to prepare for this type of human exploration. Hear from scientists who are planning/conducting training, designing collector tools, and developing methods and science objectives for the astronauts to collect samples (dig in the dirt and rocks) on the Moon (and eventually Mars). A pre show will take place at 5:00pm EST with an interactive demonstration from Intrepid Museum educator.
